Wedding Night

Under thatch they
searched for new land.
He skimmed surface –
touched hair, face, lips.

Discovered place
in curve of breast
and thigh, felt the
rise and fall of breath.

Entered sea and
sky and stars, found
her in August
moonlight, shining.

All through the night
he held her gaze
and whispered this –
You are my island.
